PRESENTATION

We intend to work around Clinical Coordinators, but ETCO needs also to define if there is a need for other committees, such as for people working as a Procurement TC, or others who are working more as a Sharing TC.

ETCO is interested in working with all Transplant Coordinators as a whole and with particular emphasis on their specific role as a procurement, sharing or clinical TC.

The clinical transplant coordinator (CTC) has been defined as a highly respected professional in the USA, by Marsha Zak in her lecture at the ITCS Congress in Nagoya 2001: "A full time dedicated CTC is a vital component of a successful transplant program. Patients and families turn to the coordinator as a trusted valuable resource for guidance through the often turbulent experience of transplantation."

The clearly defined role and field of the CTC in the USA is reflected in the NATCO program. In Europe the situation is slightly different.

One might find in some transplant centres the CTC perfoming overall like the American profile.
